How Breast Reduction Changed My Self-Image

Updated: Aug 1

There’s a moment after breast reduction surgery that no one quite prepares you for — when you look in the mirror and don’t recognize the person staring back.

Even if the surgery was your choice, even if you’re relieved or happy with the results, it can still feel deeply disorienting. And that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It just means your identity is still catching up to your reflection.

In this short Spark episode, I share my own story about that first emotional mirror moment. It’s not just about body image — it’s about how we reconnect to ourselves during healing.

This is your reminder that change, even good change, can feel like grief. And that’s okay.

Hi, I'm Shelley Beyer.

I’ve been through breast reduction surgery myself, and I’m here to support other women on that same path—before surgery, after surgery, and in the everyday healing that comes after.

I believe in reducing inflammation through a carnivore way of eating, preparing the body with intention, and creating space for the emotional, physical, and spiritual recovery this journey invites.

If you're navigating your own transformation, I’m so glad you're here.
