Why I Created Backwards Health
For most of my adult life, I lived in a body that didn’t feel like mine.
Backwards Health was born from the journey that changed everything.
Watch my story to hear how I went from chronic pain and inflammation… to healing, strength, and reclaiming my identity.

My Journey to Reclaiming Health
Hi, I’m Shelley Beyer—founder of Backwards Health, breast reduction advocate, and someone who spent decades living in a body that didn’t feel like mine.
My journey began at 13 years old, when my body developed in a way that made me feel different, sexualized, and uncomfortable in my own skin. Over time, I learned to "manage it"—but the neck pain, shoulder pain, and emotional heaviness never really went away.
For years, I wanted a breast reduction. But I waited—until after kids, after career-building, after everything else. At 52, the inflammation and pain became too loud to ignore. I knew it was time.
The Moment Everything Changed
What I didn’t know was how much I could change before I ever entered the operating room.
Before my surgery, I went on a deep healing journey. I found the carnivore and ketogenic lifestyle—and it completely transformed my life. I lost 30 pounds, healed my inflammation, cleared my gut and skin issues, and finally felt clear-headed and energized.
That healing changed my surgery, too. It made recovery smoother, inflammation lower, and pain more manageable. I felt empowered. And I wanted other women to feel that way, too.
That’s why I created Backwards Health—because everything we’ve been taught about healing is backwards. We’ve been told to focus on the recovery... but true healing begins before the surgery.
This is More Than Just Surgery
What started as nutrition support is now a full ecosystem of healing.
Through the Off the Rack podcast, blog, Youtube Channel, and soon, a private membership community, I’m helping women navigate breast reduction in a way that feels supported, intentional, and deeply healing—from the inside out.
This isn’t just about losing weight or bouncing back. It’s about reclaiming your power, identity, and peace. It’s about letting go of what no longer fits—and stepping fully into the version of you that’s been waiting to unfold.
Why I started Backwards Health
Because everything we’ve been taught about healing… is backwards.
I created Backwards Health because I realized that everything we’ve been taught about health, food, and recovery is backwards.
We’re told to wait until after surgery to start healing. To push through pain. To follow outdated advice that doesn’t nourish us—or prepare us for what’s really ahead.
But healing doesn’t begin with recovery. It begins with intention. With food. With mindset.
After healing my own body through carnivore and keto—and experiencing a breast reduction that finally felt supported and peaceful—I knew I had to help other women do the same.
Backwards Health is where that journey begins.
This Is More Than Just Surgery
Backwards Health began with my personal transformation, but it’s grown into something much bigger.
This is a movement to support women through every phase of healing and body change—emotionally, physically, and metabolically.
