After Breast Reduction: Getting to Know Myself Again

Healing after breast reduction surgery isn’t just about how your body looks — it’s about how it feels to live in it again. For many women, recovery brings a mix of emotions: relief, gratitude, confusion, and even disconnection. This From the Vault reflection explores the tender process of coming home to your body, one small, gentle step at a time.

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror after surgery and felt like you didn’t quite recognize yourself — you’re not alone. Healing is layered. It includes the physical changes, yes, but also the emotional work of rebuilding safety, trust, and belonging inside your own skin.

This post is part of my From the Vault series — revisiting the earliest pieces of my breast reduction journey and sharing them again for anyone who may have missed them. These reflections still hold so much truth about what it means to reconnect and heal deeply.

Hi, I'm Shelley Beyer.

I’ve been through breast reduction surgery myself, and I’m here to support other women on that same path—before surgery, after surgery, and in the everyday healing that comes after.

I believe in reducing inflammation through a carnivore way of eating, preparing the body with intention, and creating space for the emotional, physical, and spiritual recovery this journey invites.

If you're navigating your own transformation, I’m so glad you're here.
